Here’s the secret: The “Law” of Attraction. It’s been published and republished over the years… and “The Secret” is just the latest rehash.

Ask (the universe), Believe (it will give you anything you want), Receive (whatever you asked for). If you don’t get what you want… you did it wrong, or didn’t really believe, etc.

It’s a hoax, a lie, and in a new development… DEMONIC!

Following the phenomenal sales of The Secret edited by Rhonda Byrne, which itself was based on the film The Secret, now Esther and Jerry Hicks have come out with a DVD whose subtitle is The Secret Behind The Secret. Called Abraham, the name of the non-physical entity whom Esther channels, the DVD runs for three hours and focuses on the law of attraction, which is the deepest secret of The Secret. The DVD is available from Hay House ($39.95, 9781401919023/1401919022).

Just exactly what is a “non-physical entity” that channels itself through people? The Bible calls them demons…

The Secret piqued my curiosity, but in the end I knew there was no ’secret.’ Don’t be fooled folks. The movie, the book, and anything these people say is just a lie wrapped in pseudo spiritual/scientific babble.

Oprah fell for it and told all her viewers to buy it… how sad.

So I got married in October… thus the lack of posts.

We got a Canon Digital Rebel XTI for Christmas. Woo! It’s a gorgeous camera.

Flying to India in a week. Yeah, it’s gonna be hot.

I’m sitting here trying to figure out what Outkast is trying to say with “Hey Ya.”

He talks about sleeping around, the hookup culture, sex without connection, and thanks God that “Mom and Dad knew how to stay together.” Unlike the current generation (know for starter marriages and booty calls).

But the entire video is the very thing he seems to decry, or does he? Women are objectified, urged to ’shake it like a Polaroid picture’ and guys are urged to be ‘ice cold’ - detached from their heart and soul.

It’s hard to say. Is it a subtle attack on the free sex culture, or a celebration of it?

Do people who ‘love’ this song realize what they are singing about? Or do they just like the catchy chorus and funky beat?

Even if now they treat sex as somethign that’s ‘no big deal,’ don’t weall want to find true love - the kind that is fathful and lasts forver. You know, a soulmate?

It’s funny. When I listen to the cover, I hear the ache and heartbreak over a culture gone too far. Over people in denial that they can just ‘fool around’ and not wreak havoc on their souls.

When I listen to the original, I hear/see a celebration of excess, casual sex, and objectification.

So what is the real message? Why does a different arrangement change it?

According to the company’s publicity materials, the Hunch Engine is software that uses evolutionary algorithms to breed solutions to science, engineering, business, or design problems–solutions that no human mind could have predicted. Icosystem claims that evolutionary algorithms expose ideas to a kind of natural selection, allowing users to “reach beyond the limits of their imagination.” But the notion that serendipity might produce better results than thinking and planning left me suspicious. That was before I heard about the French letter carriers.

This dovetails nicely into ideas like Agile (iterative) Software design. In the past, software architects tried to design the entire software program before a line of code was written. The result was rarely what was needed.

Instead, Agile design writes code right away, and iteratively changes it, recoding as necessary, and rethinks the application as people use it and decide what they like and don’t like.

Nature does it everyday, why would we be so arrogant to assume we know better? Oh, yeah — we’re human.
